52Qs - 2011 Version!

Today Heather and I have been doing our first page for the 52Qs challenge. I started this challenge in 2009 and fell by the wayside quite early, I hope to do better this time round! Instead of tags or atcs I am doing 12x12 artjounal/scrapbook pages. This is because I have more paper in my house than I can ever use and this way I will at least get through one sheet a week, hopefully more.

Heather's page is painted but any 'journaling' is going to have to wait a while for the paint to dry - maybe a few months!!

This is my page, I have written my hopes for the year around the edge of the page. I will try and find a better way of taking pictures of my pages as this challenge progresses

New Mixed Media cj

Hello blog world
Well it has been a while since I posted anything hasn't it!

I am hosting a mixed media cj on UKS and am having great fun making my little book. Only a front cover so far but i thought I'd share it :)

This started as a chipboard blank. I cut a card copy of the house and cut this into pieces, these were then decorated in a variety of ways. Stamped, inked, painted, misted, embossed, covered in wallpaper etc. They were stuck to the chipboard and I did a bit of faux stiching with a gel pen around the edges. The door and window were chipboard that was painted in a mixture of brown, copper, gold and white paint to give a kind of aged look. The lady in the window was mounted onto a stamped background and the window has acetate 'glass'. This may be one of those occasions where I didn't know when to stop but I quite like the end result! Only inside cover, back and my actual page to do - good job its nearly a month until it travels anywhere :)

Atc Trail and snowed in!

Well its a cold and snowy day here today, the school is closed and the snow is still coming down heavily so we are in hibernation!

Been a while since I made any ATCs so I felt it was time I jumped back on the UKS atc trail, I do love ATCs its such a great size to work with :)

Having a clear out!

I needed to make a wedding card this weekend and this is what I came up with, there are details on my other blog. Its been a bit hectic here over the holidays but I hope it will get back to normal soon.

As I need to make space for my new stamps I am having a bit of a clear out of some of my others that I do not use so much. Some were quite difficult to get hold of but have not had the use they deserve. my ebay items are here if anyone want a nose, I am also selling some Magnolias there.

Little Gift Sets

OK, its Christmas eve and yes I am still making Christmas presents! I thought I'd share a few I've made over the last few days in between trying to make the house fit for visitors and getting my kids back from their other grandparents through the blizzard conditions, lol, been a bit hectic here!

This set is for my gran, it includes a note book, 5 note cards an a fridge calendar.

I made a little box for it all to go in and I think it looks pretty good :) The sentiment stamps used are from {ippity}.

This set is for my Mum, she loves lime green so when I saw this paper in paperchase a while ago i had to get it to make something for her. This set is a diary, notebook and note cards.

Finally a larger notebook that I have made for my BF's Mum. She is cat mad so I used a dingbat to print a little cat on the pages and the cat on the cover is from the same font. No stamps for once - a minor miracle!

Here is hoping the recipients all like them :)

Off to start the Christmas rounds of relatives today and finish the cleaning (yuk), here is to a very happy Christmas!

Papertake Weekly Challenge 30

It is still snowing here in my corner semi-rural Hampshire!

Well I did it, a thank you card for the Landlord at the pub my BF works at. I used the sketch here and fiddled it around a bit. I don't like it much but it will do if I do not have time to make another. I have had these stamps for ages and never used them so at least they got out of the pack.

Well it may be wet rather than snowing here but there is sure a lot of snowman soup about!

I am trying to perfect the art of stamping onto mugs at the moment, this is slow progress but hopefully I'll have some nice mugs to share soon.

A Book in a Box

As my Mum was unable to come to Joseph's play I have made her a mini book of the play. I used the instructions on UKS here

This shows the inside of the box, the mini book and little wallet I've put one for the programs in

The mini book in position. I have filled it with lots of pics of the play and a rough outline of the plot (its not complex!)

Ok, not at all craft related but here is Joseph as a shepheard (the middle one) in his school play! Yes he spent more time grinning at the audience than he did paying attention to where he was going but at four what do you expect! :)

His Grampy, Great Gran and my OH are going to a performance tomorrow but my Mum is working so I have taken loads of pics and think it may make a nice little pressie if I do a mini book of 'Humph the camel' for her.

Someone is going to be two!

Yes an important birthday is approaching rather fast, my niece is going to be two next week! My Magnolias have come out for the occasion, she loves strawberries so I stamped a rather scummy background of strawberries and used a summery Magnolia to go with it... I know not very seasonal but sometimes you have to pretend the sun is shining and its not freezing outside :)

The card in all its glory, still having camera issues, the 2 is glimmer misted not blotchy in real life...

All stamps used are from past Magnolia stamp club kits, looking forward to a new kit arriving soon to play with!

Spicy Christmas Cookies

A cheap and effective gift that is being made in this house for Christmas is jars of cookie mix, this is the first of quite a few :) The jars were £1 from ASDA so works out great as an extra pressie instead of the normal box of chocs!

Top of the jar, this stamp has come in so handy, I think it came off the front of a docrafts magazine... you never know what stamps are to be the best value, lol

Front of the jar, I printed the label and instructions onto nice paper and then just used circle punches to layer them up.

Reverse of jar with the instructions for making the cookies, these are yummy and the recipe fit perfectly in the jar... meant to be.

Please excuse the quality of picture on my blog at the moment, hoping father Christmas is going to bring me a new camera!

Gatefold Christmas Card

Now I don't want you to think this is the first Christmas card I have made, LOL, no this is number 66! This however is the first I feel worth sharing as the others were two orders one of 25 and one of 40 so needed to be pretty simple :)

It turns out that a gatefold card is quite tricky to photograph especially as it seems to have not bothered getting light here today, very dull and damp.

The last image is of the card open to show off the inside.

Had good news today about the craft unit I'm to sell some of my cards in but I'll share that when its all confirmed

Tilda is home!

I have been bad at uploading cards recently so this post is just to show I have made some, LOL!

I made this card to send to someone as a little surprise, the image is from Fred She Said.

This card is made for a friend of my boyfriend, its mostly magnolias and I was quite pleased with how it turned out.

And this is my attempt at following some one sheet wonder instructions. I didn't make as many cards as it said and used the extra bits of patterened paper to decorate the box i made for it to go in, thought it would make a nice gift.

Calendars (altered clock bases)

I recently made an impulse purchase of 30 of these little mdf clock bases, I knew they would be useful :) The start of christmas present production. I just papered them then stamped and added a few bits and bobs. I think they have turned out quite well, I am going to put a magnet on the back - a nice quick but useful pressie!

Dancing Queens Circle Journal

I am just about to start my first ever Circle Journal. It is not due to head off until the begining of March but I have spent the last couple of days having great fun putting the book and my two pages of layouts together. My book is going to travel with a Tilda stamp and I am really looking forward to seeing what people come up with. There are better pics in my flickr album here if you want to read the writing :)

Melted Crayon Book Mark

I saw instructions for how to create backgrounds using melted crayons. The theory was that you then removed the wax and left the colour. well I tried and it didn't work, i guess i am using the wrong types of paper or crayon or something, the wax AND colour came off. Well anyway i decided I actually liked the look with the melted wax on so here is my bookmark. Its made for a challenge on UKScrappers.

Altered Thimble Rack 'Treasure'

These are some pictures of the thimble rack that i have altered, it cost couple of pounds from a cheapy shop in town. I painted it with geeso, papered,applied gold paint and more gesso and then used pva mixed with a little tattered rose distress ink as a varnish. it is filled with my 'treasures' some of which I have kept since i was very small. Not sure what anyone else would think of it but its packed with sentimental attachment for me.

Birthday Star Card

I bought some stamps from this great company called Faerie Song a little while ago. I meant to make somthing for my hubby for our anniversary but they did not arrive due to a little visit they made to customs :( Anyway it is his Birthday in a week or so and this is what I have come up with. The Dragon and fairy stamps are all from Faerie Song along with the sentiments apart from the Happy Birthday which is Stamps away and the florishes are from Unity. The instructions for the star card are from Time for Crafting .

Seed Folder

I have been inspired by some lovelly little folders I've seen made to hold tea bags or a packet of seeds, so i wanted to have go myself. From the original idea though the finished result bares little resemblance but I am pleased with it, good thing too as it took ages! I hope my Mum will like it as its her Christmas present (I am safe to post this as she is not into blogs!) Above is the front cover.

This is the first page, I have made a little pocket to hold a notepad and a pen holder.

There is a Pocket for each month, I have put in a few packets of seed to start it off.

This is a pocket inside the back cover to hold notes, cultivating instructions etc.

A Card - Finally!

Well I have finally managed to make a card, not sure why but have been off cards for a couple of weeks. Its using two stamps I bought from the Magnolia Winter Collection. My Stamp club stamps arrived this morning so hope they will get me going on the Christmas cards again. Thanks for looking.

Shopping list pad Directions

This is my attempt to show how I made my shopping list pad. This is the way I did it but I am not saying its the best in any way :) I cut a piece of A4 chipboard in half lengthways

I made a slit using a craft knife big enough for the back of the note pad to side into.

I took an A4 piece of card and repeated both these steps on the card.

I then trimmed the bottom of the chipboard and the card for the back, both needs to be 2cm shorter than the card for the front.

I place the note pad on the front card to see where it will came down to and then made four score lies 1cm appart below the note pad.

I folded on the second scoreline down and scored cut and folded to make the pen holder, as detailed in previous post.

I then stuck the two pieces of card to the two pieces of chipboard, lining up the slots on the front parts.

The front can then be stuck to the back but I only stuck at the top and bottom to allow enough flexability to insert the notepad.

This can now be decorated as desired and magnets glued to the back so it can stick to the fridge.

Variation on a theme!

I Know I have done the wrong year!!!! ARRGGGHHH it will be fixed!

Yet another Diary! This is a bit different as I have made the pen holder on the edge instead of the spine. Quite pleased with myself as I made the text circle on the PC myself (thanks to the great instructions on UKScrappers). I will try to give details on how i made the cover :)

My Diary has the following dimensions (adjust for yours):

Height 15cm

Width 10.5cm

Spine 2cm

I took an A4 peice of card and cut lengthwise so it was just taller than my Diary. I scored my card at the following points:

1cm and a few mm in and then made that my zero line and scored at the following 10.5cm, 12.5cm, 24,25,26,27.

Folded at the score line at 25cm. Scored at 5 cm and 10cm along this fold up to the next score line and then cut at these points.

Folded to make the pen holder (see previous post to see details) and then glued and inserted diary.

If anyone tries to follow these and has trouble let me know, the light was too bad to take pictures.

Shopping list pad

bought Some little note pads from Asda for the grand sum of 10p each and I am turning them into notebooks to keep on the fridge for shopping lists etc.

I made a place for a pen to live, always nice to have one handy.

It has two magnets on the back so it can hang on the fridge.

Covered Notebook/Diary Instructions

These instructions are based on those found on the Double Dutch Challenge blog here. I (and I know others) found the instructions a little difficult to follow so to save everyone elses cardstock this is my attempt to clarify, I hope no one minds :)

Firstly have your note book and sheet of card, to cover an A6 notebook you need A4 card so you need to scale accordingly for your notebook.

Cut your cardstock so that it is just taller than the notebook and twice the width plus at least 7cms (this is where i move slightly away from the Dutch instructions) Then score at the centre point and 1cm either side.

You should have 3 score lines across the width of your card, bit difficult to see in the picture (the help of a cat is optional)

Fold on the centre score line and then cut from the edge to the next score line at two points equal distance fron the ends, I cut 5cms from both ends.

You should have two cuts like this.

Push the ends parts so they fold in and the middle so it folds out like in the picture.

Glue the folds together

This is an adaption I mde to the original as i think it makes it a bit neater. place your notebook in the folder you have made and score alng its edge, remove the book and score about 3mms further along from the score line just made, this can then fold over the edge of the book.

Repeat this for the front cover.

You can now glue the notebook to the back cover and spine, i recomend very sticky glue and using somthing to hold it together while it sets.

Repeat for the front cover and leave for glue to dry.

An example of a finished book, in this case a diary.

I hope this has been helpful, sorry aboout the awful layout I can not get it to behave :)

This tin was from the £1 shop, it had waffer biscuits in (fortunately the kids like them, they have 3 tins worth to eat!) I painted the ends and used DCWV paper to cover the tin and then loads of Pointestia to decorate :)

I am going to do these for a few people at Christmas, this is for my Brother and SIL, it will be filled with sweets.

I have made this card for my son's friend's birthday that is coming up and it my entry for this week's ABC Challenge. It is using sporting George from Charmed cards and Crafts and the papers are printed from a Funky Hand CD. I have got rather behind with challenges this week. This is my card for this weeks challenge on sketch saturday. I used my rather lovely DCWV Christmas papers and another pointsetia :) I even managed to bring myself to actualy put a charm on, they usualy just get gazed at. The red paper has been embossed using my cuttlebug but it does not show well in the picture. Hope you like it, thanks to looking.

Dinky Dots Den - Challenge 1 DT

This is my entry for the first challenge over on Dinky Dots Den. As its a Design team call they said you could make as many items as you liked. I got quite into the Halloween theme as I dont normally do Halloween it was fun and I made three items, AJ Wizard is so cute I found him great to work with.

My first item is a Halloween card using AJ Wizzard and Halloween papers downloaded from Canon Scrapbooking

I then made a treat box (they are marshmallows inside - well they were i should say) I thought this would be neat to keep inside the front door for when we get trick or treaters round. The papers are offcuts from the card and i found some funky ribbon in my drawer.

Lastly I printed AJ onto some shrink plastic and coloured him. I have put the shrunk AJ on a keyring with some Halloween colours ribbon and a couple of charms (made the 'Boo' with some letter beads and findings in my stash). I think AJ makes a really cute keyring.

There was a choice of two challenges on the Papertake Weekly Challenge this week. It is their first birthday so you could do a card for a first, e.g birthday, christmas etc, or you could do a card with no stamping. Well no stamping was a difficult one so I did a first Birthday card, I will probably use it for my niece as she is one in December. To make the card I used the Sketch on Sketch Saturday shown below. I had the misfortune to have to make a sympathy card today, I thought I would cheer the occasion up by making it for a challenge too. I would like to say that it looks better in the flesh, having a bit of trouble with my camera in the dodgy autumn light.

I think the card was more of a success than the cake - there are benefits of making it early, I can make another! It is the sample for the Christmas cards I will be making for my Gran to send, she wants 30 so I am thinking of 10 of three designs but i'll see if I get bored :)

The Chickens!

No cards have been made here in the last couple of days, feeling a bit lack luster. Thought I would show a picture of our new chickens, one I can tell appart and she is going to be called Rosie (she has rosy cheeks at to moment, her feathers are a bit thin). The other three all look the same to me at the moment, hope I will start to be able to tell them apart eventually or it will be like the Gerbils, we have spot and the 3 pips! They are only 10 weeks old so a long wait for eggs but they are great to watch.

I bought a Cuttlebug today!!! I have sold a load of stuff I dont use on ebay (not quite enough enough to cover it but i couldn't wait), look forward to its arrival :)

Cute Card Thursday 29 and Blog Candy

This is my entry for this week's Cute Card Thurday Challenge . The challenge was to use lots of sparkle. I have used one of my new hAnglar and stAnglar stamps (O boy were they worth the wait!!!) and added glitter to her wings, scalf and some of the flowers in on the background paper along with a couple of gems for extra sparkle. The card is based on an adaptation of the sketch here by Nikki.

Wiff of Joy Stamps - Guest Designer Call

Here is my entry for the Wiff of Joy Guest Designer Call. The Wiff of Joy stamps are amazing, I have managed to restrain myself so far from buying any, mostly because the one I particularly wanted was out of stock :) (I have no actual will power). The requirement for the Designer call were to make a new card using any of Katharina's sketches. I love sketches and had a good look through all of the ones on her blog before choosing to use sketch 15. My challenge to myself at the moment is to take better pictures of the cards I make, instead of a quick snap on the kitchen table. I followed the directions on Uk Scrappers to make a mini book. It is filled with photos from a trip to Weymouth last week. I am going to give it to my Mum (and Dad) in law as a thank you for having us for our hols. Sue is a big gift bag fan so I mage a little bag for it to go in.
